There’s something special about life on the West Coast. We’ve all experienced it. Morning fog rolling in off the Pacific, a coffee in hand while the mountains watch over the city, that easy-going pace that somehow still gets things done. Out here in Vancouver, we know how to hustle without losing the lifestyle. But every so often the world shifts, and those of us building businesses need to lean in a little harder.
Good news for both Canadian and Vancouver businesses. Right now that shift is happening across the Atlantic.
Canada and the European Union are deepening their partnership in a big way. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen recently floated the idea of Canada becoming the EU’s first “associate member” — a new kind of closer relationship that goes beyond the existing CETA trade deal. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has welcomed the ambition for stronger cooperation on trade, technology, defence, energy, and critical minerals. It’s still early days, and the details are being worked out, but the direction is clear: Canada and Europe are choosing to build something stronger together.
For Vancouver and Canadian companies, that means opportunity rolling in like the morning fog. Whether you’re selling services B2B or products B2C, European consumers and businesses are going to be paying more attention to Canadian brands. The ones that show up early, look professional online, and speak clearly to those markets will get noticed. The ones that wait risk getting lost in the noise.
Need some more marketing power?

A little extra fuel for your marketing budget
The Digital Business Grant offers up to $4,200 to help eligible businesses strengthen their digital marketing and online presence. It covers 70% of approved project costs (you cover the other 30%). Think of it as a solid push to get your website, SEO, and digital strategy ready for a bigger stage.

Why this moment matters for West Coast entrepreneurs
Vancouver is a beautiful city with a burgeoning technology industry…and more. We’ve got the creativity, the outdoor lifestyle that people around the world quietly envy, and a natural openness to new markets. With Canada and the EU drawing closer, the window is open for Canadian brands to become more visible and relevant to European buyers — both business clients and everyday consumers.
Getting your digital house in order now means you’re ready when those conversations start heating up. A clean, searchable website and a clear digital strategy aren’t just nice-to-haves anymore. They’re the difference between being found and being overlooked.
And while you’re thinking bigger, remember you’re not doing this alone. Our Europe’s Podcast is part of the Canada’s Podcast family — another voice in our network that connects entrepreneurs across the Atlantic. It’s a reminder that the bridges between here and Europe are already being built, one conversation at a time.
So if your business fits the criteria, take a look at the grant. Use it to tighten up your online presence, give your marketing budget a little more muscle, and position yourself for what’s coming.
