The Canadian Taxpayers Federation released Leger polling on Monday showing 69 per cent of Canadians oppose the federal carbon tax hike on April 1.
“The poll is clear: the vast majority of Canadians, across every province and all demographics, oppose the upcoming federal carbon tax hike,” said Franco Terrazzano, CTF Federal Director. “Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should listen to Canadians and stop hiking his carbon tax.
“If Canadians don’t support a carbon tax that costs 17 cents per litre of gas, how can the feds justify cranking it up all the way to 37 cents per litre in a few years? Canadians need relief so Trudeau should make life more affordable and scrap the carbon tax.”
The Federation said the federal government is increasing the carbon tax to 17 cents per litre of gasoline, 21 cents per litre of diesel and 15 cents per cubic metre of natural gas on April 1.
It said the Leger poll asked Canadians if they support or oppose the upcoming carbon tax hike. Results of the poll show:
- 69 per cent of Canadians oppose the carbon tax hike
- 31 per cent of Canadians support the carbon tax hike
“If you remove Quebec and British Columbia, where the federal carbon tax isn’t directly applied, 72 per cent of Canadians oppose the upcoming tax hike,” said the organization.
“A majority of Canadians across all demographics – gender, age, province, income, education level – oppose the carbon tax hike.”
